BG - Base Game

Getting Started

You should install at least one of my custom cheese recipes for each skill level. You can find these recipes by using the search filters on the Crafting page.

For your convenience, here are links to a few recipes that will help you get started and max out this skill:

  • Cream Cheese

  • Ricotta Cheese

  • Cheddar Cheese

  • Gruyere Cheese

  • Reblochon Cheese

If you'd like to add an overview of this info to your Sim's Notebook, you can shift+click on the Brazen Homestead craftbooks for BrazenLotus Debug & Cheats to add the Cheesemaking Reference Info to my custom notebook category!

Learning the Skill

  • Cheesemaking is a 5-level skill.

  • Reading the first volume of the skill book will start your Sim’s journey into Cheesemaking!

  • You can purchase the skill books from wherever you normally purchase books.

  • You can also learn the skill by purchasing a Cheese Press from the Appliances section of the Buy Catalog and interacting with it to make your first Cheesemaking recipe.

Once you've acquired the skill, you can either:

  • Read the other skill books, or

  • Start crafting recipes to level up your Sim's skill.

Crafting Cheese

  • Sims start by learning how to make different types of cheese curds and will unlock more curd recipes as they level up.

  • Cheese curds are used as the main ingredient for all cheese recipes, or they can be eaten as a meal.

  • You’ll find Cheesemaking recipes on the Cheese Press and the Brazen Homestead Craftbooks.

Curdling Milk:

  • When your Sim is done curdling milk on the stove, the curds need to drain for about 3 hours.

  • Curds won’t begin to spoil until they’ve completely drained.

  • Once drained, Sims can choose to:

  • Collect the curds as an ingredient, or

  • Collect them to eat.

  • Sims also get a bottle of whey after collecting curds. Whey can be used to make rennet (once unlocked) or drunk straight from the bottle.

  • Sims with a medium-level Fitness skill will get a special buff after drinking whey.

Types of Cheesemaking

There are two categories of cheesemaking using different crafting methods:

Fresh Cheese

  • Can be made and used immediately.

  • Quality depends on skill level.

Ripened Cheese (Cheese Wheels & Blocks)

  • Must be pressed and ripened before they can be eaten or used as ingredients.

  • Ingredients are added to the Cheese Press for about 4 hours, after which your Sim can collect a wheel or block.

Ripening stages include:

  • Unripened

  • Bland

  • Mild

  • Robust

Notes:

  • Unripe cheese can be used as an ingredient or eaten immediately, but since it’s raw, it may make your Sim sick.

  • Quality is determined by skill and slightly affects value.

  • Cheese value increases the longer it ripens.

  • Once a serving is taken from a wheel/block, it starts to spoil and won’t ripen further.

Ingredients

  • Unless you have the Simple Living lot trait active, all ingredients are optional.

  • This mod includes several craftable ingredients and new interactions on in-game objects that let you collect ingredients.

  • Sims with the Botanist trait can collect cultures from certain harvestables and spoiled food immediately.

  • Other Sims gain access as they level up their Cheesemaking skill.

  • Additional ingredients (like salt or spices) will only appear if you have them installed. You can find those downloads on my Crafting page.

Skill Max

  • As Sims level up, more recipes unlock.

  • They gain experience both from crafting cheese and from pressing/collecting it.

  • At Level 5, Sims earn the reward trait Cheese Master, which inspires them when eating cheese or any of my cheese-based dishes.
